Day 10 of 35

Digitizing reality rather than paperwork

View the hypothesis

Digitizing reality rather than paperwork

Consider material receipt. A purchase order says 1,000 units were ordered. A person records that 1,000 were received. The database may be internally consistent even if 900 physically arrived. The record is an assertion about reality.

Traditional enterprise control adds reconciliation: counts, approvals, invoices, three-way matching, audits and exception handling. AI can read the documents faster, but the deeper redesign is to make the physical event generate authenticated state.

Physical event → authenticated evidence → state transition → accounting/control consequence

Serialized identity, machine vision, weight, sensors, custody transfer and provenance can reduce discretionary human assertions. The physical/digital trust boundary remains; sensors and identities can be attacked. But the number and location of trust boundaries can change.

When operational state and accounting state arise from the same verified event, some reconciliation and compliance activity disappears rather than being automated. The technology has not sold an AI replacement for every old task; it has removed the reason the task existed.
